As chair of the Advocacy Committee efforts are being made to collaborate with the Area Agency on Aging Association, State Office of Services to the Aging and National Council on Aging to discover common issues that we can focus a coordinated advocacy approach to influence the policies and legilsation at all levels of government that address the well being and indpendance of older adults present and future.

We will need your help to assist in the development of grass roots civic engagement by older adults on their own behalf.  Individuals collectively have a much greater impact that associations, organizations and lobbyists combined.  Many Centers are including computer lab in their programming which make contacting elected and appointed officials much easier and quicker than ever before.  Our advocacy committees are working together to research the issues and develop a platform on aging issues and we will need your assistance to contact the candidates in your districts to survey the candidates on their positions.

Please use this forum to give us your insight and suggestions because there is no "they" who are advocating, it's all about what you do on a daily basis.  There may not be an "I" in team but there is an "I" in win.

In 2009 31 of the 38 Senators in Michigan are term-limited.  This is a phenomenal opportunity to elect age friendly representatives.  Together we have less than a year to educate the candidates.
